Les Talens Lyriques: Christophe Rousset (harpsichord, organ, director), Anders J. Dahlin (tenor) & Emiliano Gonzalez Toro (tenor). Christophe Rousset was already well-established as a harpsichordist when, in 1991, he created Les Talens Lyriques – the Parisian period ensemble that specialises in unearthing treasures of the French baroque but carries its combination of brilliance, vigour and scholarship into other territories.
Chief among them is Monteverdi, who dominates this programme with perhaps the most exquisite of all his madrigal-settings. Written for two tenors and continuo, Zefiro torna is a smilingly exuberant showpiece of baroque musicianship, designed to be a 17th-century smash-hit, as it remains today.
